ARI

A new way of getting lost

What is ARI?

ARI is a modern digital compass, portable and easy to use at any given moment which offers a different approach to wayfinding.

ARI primarly aimed at travelers and people who like to explore and experience the city in their own way.

What does ARI do?

ARI combines philosophy and technology.
ARI offers you a different approach to wayfinding by changing it’s meaning. You are free to choose your own way of reaching your destination, look around and explore the city while ARI is always there to guide you.

ARI doesn’t tell you where you are, ARI tells you where you are not.

How does ARI work?

Set the destination in your maps app, put your phone away and let ARI guide you. The LED lights will point you the right direction to head in and let you know the percentage of distance to your destination.

The overall design also includes the workable prototype, packaging, manual and tech-book.

Technical description

ARI is a digital compass which consists of the external structure and the technological components. The device is made of tree main parts: the cover (1), the bottom (8) and technological components (3-7). The external structure (top and bottom) are made of plastic and they hold the internal components. The top part contains a 5mm semi-translucent plastic ring (2) which allows for the lights to pass through. The internal technological parts are: led lights ring (3), printed ciruit board (6), the power button (5), the usb port (4) and the battery (7).

Developing process

During the concept development, we asked ourselves “are we able to achieve the product as students with limited resources?”. After many try outs, we arrived at the point of having a functional working prototype operating with arduino board.

Special thanks to Ricky, Marta and Ivana. Without you, this project would not happen.
